Hot battery

So should a battery get hot whilst trying to crank the engine?
Warm possibly. Hot sounds like it's shagged.
Has it been left to go flat? Has it been put on charge a lot?

Would say warm to hot, is supposed to be a new battery that has never been charged.
Really thinking about it now, could of beenhow much I used it, did spend a lot of time trying to get it started

Check the either end of the battery. See if the ends are bulged out. If they are then the battery has sulphated and will struggle holding a charge or provided enough amps on cranking.
If you was trying for a long time to get it started I'd guess a hot battery could be expected.

Check the charge rate to make sure it's not over charging man.
