G13A Rebuild

Post by Larry » Mon Nov 05, 2018 10:24 am

Hi all,

My G13A in my samurai is becoming increasingly sad. In the almost 2 years I've owned it it's always burnt oil and emits a lot of white smoke somedays, it depends what mood it's in!

Recently though, the oil light has started to flicker when hot at idle only. Once the revs pick up its fine. In general it's tired and needs some work, I have no record of Cam belt changes etc so it needs to be put right for my own peace of mind.

Where is best to get a rebuild kit from or am I mad an should I put a G16A in and rebuild that instead?

Thanks,

Entirely up to you but if you want a bit more power I would go for the 1.6 8v aye. Especially as you have a sammy it will be a fairly easy fit, plus you could rebuild a 1.6 before putting it in which would make things a bit easier.

The 1.6 is a higher compression engine, meaning it's more efficient. Because of this, most people who've done the swap tell me they get the same or better fuel economy from a 1.6.

I can't say from personal experience though. Not yet, anyway... ;)

Hmmm maybe I should just go for a 1.6.
Does anyone have one for sale??

Not many showing up on ebay. Also, what's the going rate for a decent one?

Thanks,

Anton

I've never paid more than £100 for a G13 or a G16.

*edit* Talk to ScottieJ, Andeyrew or Mike Harris. Between those guys, they usually have any parts you could possibly need.

Thanks for info. I've just stuck a post in the wanted section so I'll see if anything suitable turns up!

Cheers,

Anton
