Just read an Auto Express article suggesting that filling up occasionally with 99 octane can be a better alternative. Anyone ever tried it and had good results?

I have heard this also, but for the age of the vehicles I can't imagine the benefits will be at all noticeable in either performance or efficiency etc. Never tried it myself and honestly never intend to. If you can qualify the cost then give it a bash and let us know

I wonder if Ethanol might also work to strip out gunk? That stuff can eat through fuel lines if you use it regularly, so maybe the occasional flush with it might clean stuff without the damaging effects of long term use?

Going to go the safer route with an additive.99 Octane isn't available anymore in any of the local stations.

Ethanol is evil but only if you let the car stand for a few months. So it's ok to use if you drive every day. I've had to clean out a LOT of bike carbs though lol.

But I did try some high octane ethanol free stuff the other week in Piglet. The difference was startling, ran cleaner, faster, accelerated better too. I would use it all the time but the added price of 20p a litre killed it for me.

Hmmm, might have to try that then!

Don't think there's much buildup on this SJ, but can't hurt to try it once.
