New YJ Springs

Post by Ladaman » Wed Aug 28, 2019 12:53 pm

My existing YJ springs seem to be getting a little tired and flat. Has anyone bought any new ones, and if so where did you get them from? I've seen a couple available on eBay, any one got experience with these?

I dont want uprated as in load carrying, but might be interested in a little lift, as i'm down to the bump stops almost. Maybe that's just because of the tired springs though.

Any guidance would be appriciated.

Oh, and hello to all as I haven't been on for an age! Sorry. Must do better.

I recently bought some brand new rears from eBay. They actually came from the guy who runs the jeepchryslerparts website. Took me a lot of searching but in the end I could only find the HD 6 leaf rears, all standard 5 leafs were only available as 2+ or more lift springs.

I got the 6 leaf HD rears and just took one of the leafs out. But then regretted doing that as I think I could have stuck with the 6 leafs as 5 are relatively soft still, which I have misplaced so they'll probably never go back in. The only issue I had is that one set of bushes were missing from the pack but I message the guy and he through some in the post straight away and they arrived the next day.

tldr: you will probably only find 6 leaf HD ones at standard height.

Thanks for that Tim, I will give them a call at lunchtime.

Where did you find the 2" lift springs, were they in the UK or USA? I'm half thinking of a slight lift.

In the UK, company called Jeepy based in Hull. Was temped by their Old Man Emus but decided against lifted springs in the end. They list more on their website than the stock, but give them a call and they'll tell you what they have and price up individual springs etc.

Thanks for the info Tim. I've taken the plunge and ordered from the anus Chrysle guy a set of four standard springs. I will leave all the leaf's in and see how they are before contemplating removal of any.

Fingers crossed they lift the truck a bit and make it more comfortable.

Tim,

Did you have YJ's on before buying the new ones? I've got my new ones now, and when I do a side by side comparison to the old springs they seem identical, so maybe my old ones aren't as tired as I thought.

I might send them back and look to adjust the shackle set up to get the axles away from the bump stops.

Any thoughts from anybody else?

Have you fitted them to see? Ill see if I can dig out the photo as I did the same thing and compared mine side by side, if anything the old ones looked better than the new ones, but when I fitted the new ones, thats when I saw how tired the old ones had got.

I've not fitted them as I don't want to push the bush in, as i might send them back. I have stood on each one in turn and they seem just the same.

Can you send me a pic of the front shackle set up on yours? I've got the two piece set up. One horizontal attached to the chassis, and then the normal one. I might add a packer behind the horizontal one to lower the front a bit, and so lifting the truck a bit.

Does it have any gangsta lean?

That was of the main reasons tim changed his i think.

Is your YJ conversion a kit or home brew?

No lean, just very little upward movement on the suspension. Loads of downwards.

Home brew, I did a long thread on it ages ago when i did it. It's called fitting YJ springs to a Sammi. All the pics seem to have gone though. Why is that?

Friggin' hell, Dec 2013! But I've not used it much over the last few years, so it doesn't mean my springs are shot.
