steering box 94 escudo

Post by Purdey » Wed Oct 30, 2019 10:57 am

Hi guys I'm a new member and having problems locating a part for my dads 1590 cc escudo 94 plate. The car is actually in the west indies and has been a very reliable and great motor you wouldn't know from looking at it that it is 25 years old. Anyway the steering has gone really stiff and hard to operate and it needs a steering box. I was hoping to buy one off the shelf brand new for him but am having problems locating one. I've spoken with a few Japanese parts specialist who say they can possibly refurbish the old one for around £250 to £350 depending on how much wear there is. But that would mean having to get his part sent back from the west indies. So I was really hoping to buy one new, cost permitting. Does anyone know where I could possibly purchase a new one or how much that would be. Or maybe buy a second hand one over here which I could then get refurbished. Many thanks in advance

Do you not have suzuki dealerships over there? They should be able to source and price one up for you. Why do you want to go brand new instead of a 2nd hand one?

:welcome2:

You say your dad is in the W.Indies, but you don't actually say where you are. If you're in the UK, have you had a word with a Suzuki dealership over here?

You can often find bits on ebay, or ring round your local breakers to see if anyone has one. Then you can ship it to your dad.

We do have Suzuki dealerships in the UK and in the past they have been very helpful. The problem being the age of the vehicle they don't stock parts that old. And because the car was originally made in Japan and has the Japanese chassis number, Suzuki uk computer systems have been upgraded and now only have European registered cars. In the past I've been able to give them the Japanese chassis and they have come back with the equivalent European part number. I dont mind buying one second hand if I could locate one but if not it would have to be a new part.

Have you actually tried them though? I have ordered parts just by saying the model and year and they found exactly what I needed. I think you will be suprised at the parts they can still source.

Also the vits have power steering, have you checked PS fluid levels and stuff first? It might be the pump that has gone also not the steering box itself.
