passed VRT!!! mot in uk

Post by courior » Wed Nov 19, 2014 10:25 am

Well.. Didn't pass first time.. Failed on eemissions, rear brake balance and kingpin worn.

So first step took it to a carb bloke for a carb strip and rebuild. Cost 50 quid and was done in a few hours. Wow what a difference!!! It runs so smooth and has what feels like double the power! He rekons I'll get my 50 quid back in mpg soon. He never saw a carb that dirty!

Then I changed the pass side kingpin bearings. 15 quid for the pair and couple of hours later they are in.. Again wow what a difference in handling. No more bump steer and it feels soooo solid going over rough ground.

The next job which should have been the easiest , to adjustthe brake ashoes , was the worst. First I found the slave cylinder leaking so went to take it off and one of the banjo bolts was stuck. So cut the pipe that links the two wheels together and went to get new pipe and Cylinder. 20 quid for both not bad. Put the cylinder on. Bent the new pipe to fit the. Car and then I stripped the threads on the other side cylinder!! Went to get another one 14 quid. All back together and vrt retest time!

Rear brakes are perfectly balanced so that's good. King pin passed of course.. And emissions..... Well from 10 on the machine at idle it dropped to 3.. And from well over 10 at fast idle its down to 0.3!!!! From the gas analyser he said my engine is sweet as a but tuning wise!!!

Well chuffed :)

Cheers lads.. The sticker will be accompanied soon by the number plate :) ... going to move it to the left of the hoonigan logo and lift the tow bar up real high!

Cant believe how well it goes for a 970cc on 30" wheels!
