Is this an acceptable level of rust on a 2007 Vitara?

Hey all,

Considering purchasing a 2007 1.9 Diesel Vitara, about 110K miles on the clock. We just moved to Sweden and urgently need to stop driving our campervan aroud in inappropriate weather conditions  . I've seen a Vitara for sale at the dealers down the road which seems in fairly good nick mechanically but I can't work out whether its too rusty on the chassis. Have been driving solely campervans for the last few years which tend to be a lot less rusty as they are usually driven only during summer, so finding it hard to judge this considering the road conditions here are a quite extreme and the roads are salted every winter.

Don't know if this is the correct place to post this but would appreciate any feedback, it's between this and a Dacier Duster, I prefer the Suzuki but the chassis of the duster is in slightly better condition (assuming it's probably been driven off road a bit less!). I've done a bit of body work on previous campers so am comfortable with rust removal / underbody sealing etc although I can't weld.

Thanks !

Sorry for the image quality, my phone camera has never been the same since I dropped it in a puddle!

That looks a bit too rusty to me. My Vit was 1995 and a LOT better than that. But looks can be deceiving. Is it just surface rust? If so a wire brush will soon shift it. Even with that problem I'd still have a Suzuki over a Dacia any day! (But I am a wee bit biased).

Given that it's been though 12 or 13 harsh winters, and there is at best plenty of surface rust, if it were me I would want to get it up on a ramp for a proper look or else factor in some budget for repairs in the price. Just in case!

Thanks guys. It is going for its inspection (Swedish equivalent of MOT) before the sale which should flag anything really bad. I'm going for a test drive Wednesday I think I'll get under there with a screwdriver and give it a poke and make a decision on that.

I've been looking into getting some BONOSS forged active cooling wheel spacers
