Noisy Vitara - Is This Normal for a Suzuki Vitara?

Post by NewSuz » Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:59 pm

Hi all,

I’ve just bought a new Suzuki Vitara from Cinch, and there are a couple of things I’m not happy with but I’m not sure if they are normal. I would love to get the view of others here. I hope you're a friendly bunch! :doublethumbs:

This is my first Suzuki and I love it. The last car I had I sold about 8 years ago and I have been hiring cars – as an when – since. That car was a Rover 75 and I loved that as well. I love the look of my Vitara and it’s the perfect size inside and out for me; however, my two gripes are as follows.

Gripe/Issue 1

I took it on the motorway at the weekend and the sound as I was driving seemed much louder than most other cars I have driven. My wife was in the passenger seat trying to speak to someone on her mobile and she could hardly hear them due to the noise. Is this normal for a Vitara?

How do others find their Vitara’s noise while driving on the motorway, especially in comparison to other cars they have driven? This isn’t the noise of the engine, it seems to be the noise of the car on the road coming through the vehicle.

Gripe/Issue 2

After driving for a while, when you park there is a very load tink, tink, type noise, almost like someone hitting a tin. I imagine this is the sound of something cooling down, but I’m not sure. It’s louder than any other car I have driven before. Is this normal on a Vitara?. Should I be concerned?

Any input would be gratefully received as at the moment I’m sorrowfully 90% sure I’ll be returning the car on Cinch’s 14 day money back guarantee and I probably wouldn’t get a Suzuki again, if the two issues I’m experiencing aren’t normal or can’t be resolved easily. This hurts me because other than these two things I love the car.

By the way, here’s a picture of my baby.

Cheers

Carl

Hi welcome, sorry can’t say about the vit but we had a Skoda yeti from new 4 years ago and the road noise was loud. Always seemed worse on long motorway journeys, probably wasn’t just felt that way because of being in it for so long. We discovered it was because of the tyres, Pirelli might be good on your little sporty but the family bus not so much. As for the tink sound, yeah probably the exhaust cooling, seems some do some don’t.
Sorry can’t be of anymore help my Suzuki is 40 and in bits all round the garage, but it’s getting there and hopefully next year it will be on the road
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

Hi Robbie,

Thanks, that has been helpful. I read somewhere else it might be related to the tires.

It's going into a Suzuki specialist next week for them to have a look at. I'll be interested to hear what they have to say. They'll hopefully do the full diagnostic.

Good luck with putting together your Suzuki next year!

Does sound like tire related noise if it's not engine noise, not had a new vitara so can't comment on what's normal or not but hope you get sorted
