Pay and Play this sunday

Post by bourneyo » Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:03 am

Right folks, I received an email today about a charity pay'n'play day. The email has been copied and pasted below if anybody is interested. Dan
Hi. I thought I’d abuse my position as site admin to tell you about a charity pay & play day we're holding this Sunday (15.06.08) at John’s track. See the link below for map. I know that not everyone gets on the forum regularly and I didn’t want you to miss out if you have nothing planned this weekend and could make it, should be a good day and a chance to meet up with other northwest4x4 members.

The day has been organised because one of our forum members, samurai-master (David) and his mate Karl have signed up for the Mongol Rally. Basically, on 19th July 2008, the teams have to get from London to Mongolia (approx 10,000 miles) in about 3 weeks in any car not more than 1000cc or bike no more than 0.125 litres. If the cars are left in Mongolia they will be either given to charity or sold and the money donated to charity. You can read more details on the Mongol rally site and their team name is ‘Suicide Badgers’.

David and Karl have had a Suzuki Santana donated to them and they have got it fixed up and painted ready for the event. They’ll be going to John’s on Sunday in it so we all get a chance to see and hear it and they get a chance to test it with time to fix any problems. They have also had help with finding the £1000 sponsorship money to enter the event. The money raised on the pay & play day will go towards fuel and the charities.

We did originally say that there would be a £40 charge and some people were fine with that as it's for a good cause but there were a couple of people that couldn't make it because of the cost so if anyone else fits into that category and wants to come along and just donate what you can.... £5 or £10 or whatever you can afford is better than nothing at all and we'd rather have as many trucks as possible at the event as it is for a very good cause and there is much fun to be had. There will be hot food and drinks available.

Aaaanyway, here's a link to the play day thread, if you can please add your name to the list than we have a rough idea of numbers. http://www.northwest4x4.co.uk/forum/vie ... php?t=1774

If you're free and you can make it than it would be great to see you there, I'll be going just before 10am and putting signs up part way along the route from J27 of the M6. Once you get over parbold hill and drop down the other side (watch for the hidden speed camera on the left hand bend just before the bottom) there's a T junction off to the right, it's the one and only proper right turn before a set of lights going over a single file bridge over a canal so if you reach this you've gone too far. After you've turned right you'll see bright green signs at each junction you need to take after that.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope to see you on Sunday if poss.
