My "rust free" sj410

Post by sidsuzuki2346 » Mon Apr 24, 2017 10:25 pm

Well its been long time since i've posted on here, but don't worry the projects haven't wondered off to the scrap yard ;). The focus now is my blue tin top sj 410 as my other one has become a donor due to excessive amounts of rust. I have realized since buying the blue one (3 years ago) that it isn't the solid sj i thought it was so i have spent the last year and a bit cutting out rust and removing stuff for access.

In the last two months however the project has picked up abit as my dad has kindly invested in a brand new 180 inverter mig welder that i have been getting used to and chipping away at the large amounts of welding needed for mot :weld: . I am still learning to weld so i'm not an expert but i know that my repairs are to the mot standard as i work at a testing station 8-).

So sorry for the paragraphs of what might be boring but its my best at getting the build up to date. I'll try to update as much as possible to keep the thread going.

Good work

I don't believe the words "rust" and "free" can be used for any SJ unlesss it's been stored in a controlled environment for nearly its entire life  there is always rust hiding somewhere

Its one of the biggest downfalls with Suzuki off roaders is the tin worm problem,it got my SJ413 about 3-4 years ago and if the Vitara engine had not gone wrong tin worm would of had it at the back end of the year anyway.I really liked using that Vitara lovely motor to drive and never ever got stuck once, but still looking at getting a new Jimny this year, very rugged like a SJ but having some very nice creature comforts as well.

Unless you are good at using a welder and plating then at some stage it will be a rare sight to see them not only on the road but also off road as well.
Deceased.
SJ413 tinwormed to the great car grave yard in the sky.
Vitara LWB V6 engine deceased and also in the great grave yard in the sky.

Looking for a newish Suzuki Jimny.

Tbh I don't think they are any worse than most other cars and 4x4s. Some new cars need welding 4 years off the production line. I'm always having friends ask me to weld up all sorts of new and old cars.

Great thread. Keep the photo's going - I love to see pics these 'builds'. :doublethumbs:

EDIT:
If you want a little inspiration http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/thre ... ice.54783/ Love the way he made the panels. You might see something there that helps with the SJ.
Just washed, not a leak from the engine!

How about "comes with free rust" ...?
