Havent updated this for a while so here goes.

Decided I would get new shoes in the end as I had to drive 1300 miles to Poland and the old aggressive tyres were noisy and pretty lethal in the wet so found some nice MT Snow tyres which are far superior for road use.

Picked up a trailer to cart my stuff around in, and in August 2019 drove over to Poland, which I think took its toll on the engine. I used it a little bit here but then there were complications with importing so it sat for a few months.

Some how in that time it developed a misfire, thankfully just an HT lead end had broken. But also started churning lots of oil out of the exhaust manifold / downpipe join. Compression was a bit low on cylinder 4 so assumed the head gasket had maybe gone, so decided to change that and to do a full head rebuild whilst I was at it, lap the valves seats, clean up the valves, new stem seals etc.

Did all that and just got the head back on tonight. Got some parts arriving from the UK next week so hopefully have it all back up and running then.

Nice going! Tyres look chunky, I like 'em.

130 miles seems like a expedition in an SJ but 1,300 ?????

Haven't been able to get out and about just yet, but from the groups ive joined on facebook there looks to be plenty of good lanes around, similar to england, muddy and wet, but come winter time there are mountain trails covered in snow a plenty so looking forward to getting it back on the road for next winter.

Unfortunately its look like the piston rings have gone so I'm mid way through a full engine strip to get it sent off for honing and new rings fitted. Been quoted about £100 for all cylinders honed and oversize rings fitted, didn't think that was unreasonable.

Finally got the block apart, think I found what might have been causing the issue!

Taking it to the shop this weekend to get it measured then either honed or bored depending how had it is. New main bearings and rings to go in and hopefully be good as new!
