Different SJ. I bought mine about 14years ago from a chap in Billingham.

It was originally a tin top.

Whats the overall plans for the LWB?
I thought the reg looked different and yes mine was a open back.

The Lwb is getting a full standard resto as its a rare beast this solid now

I have new sill cover holders a friend makes, all the original plastics, new outer sills etc. Its all going to be kept original.

All its getting is a weber on, some ats, 2" lift, maybe PAS and a 1600 rad

Its going to be one of our dailys and van for my resto and blasting business. I originally was going to pull a compressor with it until i learned a kitten on roller skates can pull more :hahaha:

Does it overheat? The 1600 rad on a 1.3 is a bit much, keeps the engine too cool in my experience, best off sticking with the 1.3 rad, and if its knackered replace with a new 1.3.

It doesnt but if im honest i was always told the 1300 rads were inadequate and my last sj used to spit out the rad overflow until I fitted a 1600 rad and all was well. I had the head off too and it was fine so it wasnt caused by HG issues

I've never had overheating issues with a 1.3 rad, except when I took off the fan shroud - it started to overheat in traffic or at low speeds (like offroading).

You sure an electric fan wouldn't be easier/cheaper?

I am not sure if ive ever had a sj with the shroud on. I thought the fan just sat behind the rad and that was that. Does it missing guarantee the standard rad wont do enough?

I have pondered a electric fan before aswell but really want to keep it aa standard as possible.

Im even thinking or getting a standard steering box and just maning up  The internals are available from india now arent they

Thanks
Mick

Yea the shroud does quite a lot, without it the air isn't forced through the rad, so it just flows around it not cooling.

I remember that Yellow Sj now :doublethumbs:

a fan shroud is a must for an efficient cooling system, without one the fan just pulls air through one section of the rad, with a shroud it pulls air through the whole surface area of the rad.

If you are missing any plastic trims I have quiter a few, I don't really like the samurai style plastics so they always come off, think i have 2-3 lwb sets.

Next post: Wanted fan shroud

I would of always kept shrouds on other cars as i know how important they are but ive had little to do with viscous set ups.

I had no idea standard sj's had one like I said earlier too so it makes sense now

I have the rad already so may take it back and get a standard unit or keep it as it may end up a 1600 8v anyway hmmmmm :er:

Decisions decisions as long as it looks standard im happy
