Grand Vitara High Revs

Looking for help.
Just purchased a 2008 grand vitara 1.6 petrol.
Lovely car except the revs are very high in 5th gear.
Travelling at 100km ph the rev counter is over 3,000 revs.
Surely this cant be right!!!
