Splash guard/under engine tray?

Wonder if anyone with a grand vitara has had the same problem, developed a leak over the last week or so managed to get under and have a look. Seems the leak is coming from where the engine meets the gearbox, started to remove the splash guard/tray under the engine but majority of bolts and screws are rounded off or rusted to high heaven. Managed to cut slots in some and after plenty of wd40 removed some but most are just snapping as they turn. Could easily take them off with a grinder but wondering if I legally need this tray because if it comes off ideally I'd leave it off? Any help greatly appreciated

No you don't need it on. Must people bin them and fit bash plates instead, easy to make out of thin ally.

Also to add, oil that looks like its leaking from between engine and gearbox is most commonly the rear crank shaft seal!

Cheers DC i thought as much but thought I'd best ask before the grinder came out to play! Thanks timwilks13 think you could be right be able to see a lot better once the tray is off gonna give all under there a good clean de-grease and see where exactly it's coming from. Cheers guys 👍
