Afternoon All!

Right, after my trip up the Plain last weekend, the Jimny appears to have got a issue!

Going back a few weeks back, I fitted new wheels, to which I get a wobble after 40, if I stick my old wheels back on it's fine, so that's just a balancing issue.

Driving the car to work the other day I appear to have a 'droning' noise, at all speeds. On my other cars I would put this down to Wheelbearings, but I can feel the vibration from the floor under the clutch pedal

Am I right in thinking that the hubs are off - due to the fact Im in 2wd and they have been heard to disengage, so the front diff won't be running?

Does this mean it's wheel bearings, or the kingpin bearings, or something else?

Jack each wheel up and give them a spin and a wobble. you'll soon find any issues.

Nope, look where the play is on the front axle.

Hub and disc moving in relation to calliper etc is wheel bearing. They are often rough sounding when you spin the wheel as well.

Movement in the steering knuckle is kingpin.

No movement in steering knuckle, thank god, as I have receipts for that!
Appears to be wheel bearing as the movement is there, along with discs and pads that need attention. Turning the hub makes the groany noise that you hear whilst driving. Easy job to do or worth taking to a garage?

Fairly easy but you'l need a press to get the old bearings out and new one's in the hub

Me and the reprobate Twiss did front bearings easily without a bearing press - but that was on an SJ, not a Jimny. Are they significantly different?

Reprobate? Im not the one from tower hamlets

Depends how seized in the hubs the outer bearing race is. I had to run a bead of weld round the inside of it then let it cool to try shrink it then pressed it out.

also, unless you had front pads recently i would stick some new ones in, play in the bearing can wear the pads down wonky, and they should only be about £15-20
