Rust problems on BRAND NEW Jimny

Post by Gothmog » Mon Feb 20, 2017 12:53 pm

Hi folks

Getting a little worried about my New Jimny.

Bought brand new last October and when I come to give it a good clean and once over am finding area or rust on the chassis.

Few questions
1) What are Jimnys like long term for chassis and rust generally
2) Has anyone else see any issues like this on a 3-4 month brank new car.

Depending on the answers I plan to take up Suzuki or give it a good once over with Waxol, my bigger worry is the bits inside I cant get at.

Regards Gary

That's disappointing. I'd raise it with Suzuki as it is such a new vehicle. By getting this recorded now will be best in case you make a warantee claim further down the line. They should deal with surface rust to a chassis. It's to be expected that bolts, road springs etc will have surface rust but I would think that's not right on body or chassis at that age.

Have been looking at getting a brand new Jimny this year for the wife, that is not good news regarding the possible rust problems, are you near the sea air environment at all or driven on wet beaches ?? back in the 80s i had a brand new Ford Fiesta and took it down to Jersey on holiday,as you do when you are young is get drunk as a skunk and drive through the surf as on these sexy TV adverts and with 4 years the car was basically scrapped because of the salt water.
Deceased.
SJ413 tinwormed to the great car grave yard in the sky.
Vitara LWB V6 engine deceased and also in the great grave yard in the sky.

Doesn't look like that much underseal. If I bought new and was planning to keep for a long time I would be tempted to take it to one of those places that does LandRover waxoil type treatments and get it well preserved.

The six year old Grand Vitara has some rusty bits (surface stuff) and it is driven all winter here in Scotland where we have a lot of gritting and salt on the roads. Maybe this summer I'll get some of those Dinitrol cans and freshen up the coatings.

Hope you get this sorted.

Its been up two muddy tracks, didn't even switch from 2WD to 4WD, some people take normal cars up the track.
Never been on beach and we live a good 30 miles from the sea
Other than that all road use.

As for washing, the underside has never been washed, that gives you a idea of what use its had :)

Called Suzuki and taking in for them to have a look a week Saturday, see what they say.

Keep watching this space :)
