Grand vitara 2nd gen rear helper/heavy duty springs?

Post by Jay18 » Sat Sep 12, 2015 2:48 pm

Hi all, does anyone know of any heavy duty or helper springs for the 1998-2005 grand vitara?

I think my car is going to bottom out with the new caravan...

Usually the tow bar weight on the hitch is not a massive amount well it should not be anyway if i recall, the van should not been that nose heavy.Of course i could well be wrong.

When i towed my 2 twin axle Bessacar with my Isuzu Trooper it was not as critical the towbar weight as on a single axle.

This is how I thought it was too. Distribute the load inside the caravan so the hitch ends up the right weight.

Adding firmer springs is surely just curing the symptom and not the problem. You still end up with less pressure on the front wheels and thus reduced braking and steering control.

The caravan has a maximum in nose weight of 75kg

The GV has a maximum towball weight of 75kg

The caravan isn't fully loaded at the front, only additional weight in the front is the lightweight gas bottle and the spare wheel, which belong there anyway

It might be that the rear springs have gone soft and need replacing

Does anyone know the correct standard ride height of a 2.0 16v 5 door GV?

I have got a pair of Spring assisters that slot into the spring, I'm not too happy with them as its a bit of a bodge, I'll probably get a set of air assisters as they seem a lot safer and less likely to snap the springs

If it turns out the GV is riding lower that it should then I'll get a pair of new springs and try that..
