Any updates Mr Twiss? Mine started playing up last night and nearly failed to start so time for action?

Is it worth trying to DIY refurb?

VMT Geoff

Edit/Update while trying to sort what I need to do to replace my rapidly ailing skinny starter, I came across a thread on difflock that explains (with pics) how to gently grind the block so you can use a fat starter.

http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php ... 22a831c2f6

Hope this helps someone - please feedback any results if you have a go.

UPDATE - I think I have refurbed mine successfully, tomorrow will tell but it sounds way better off the car.

In the meantime, a guy from another forum sent me this info and I wanted to post it here as it may help someone - I can't vouch for the info but here it is anyway:-

I've tried to "clean" my starter as the solonoid has been clicking. I managed to get the starter apart. A nice little unit with a speed reduction gearbox built in. But could I open the solenoid? No chance.
I did manage to unfold the seam around the plastic end cap, but I couldn't unsolder the two wire that come out of it. The solder wouldn't melt! Even with a calor gas stove!

Found another on eBay, bought that. Then tidying up the following day, and found a spare :!:
No idea where it has come from :er:

One thing I forgot to ask, is what vehicle "should" the skinny starter be fitted to?

EDIT:- OK I think it was a Vitara Automatic

My friend had the skinny starter fitted to his japanese sj413... not entirely sure where it came from originally though as they were made in france!

Thread from the dead but seems the most sensible place to put this,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281474995769? ... EBIDX%3AIT

they say its the slimmer version but the Mitsi Part number doesnt match page one of this thread. Anyone shed some light on this? Its £10 plus postage cheaper than the auto spares place mentioned in the first post thats all!

It doesn't fit.

Even after lots of cutting and put an old 9 tooth gear on.
Etc etc the D6RA62 does not fit my Sammie 1.3 gearbox, 1.6 Vit Engine.
