2010 Grand Vitara SZ5. 2.4 petrol

Post by SZ5 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 5:12 pm

Hello, new here and just making an introduction post.

Have owned a :BS: 5 door Grand Vitara for approximately 18 months. This is my first Suzuki and I have been very pleased with it. I bought it with 47k on the clock and so far it has been a trouble free motor. I like to do my own maintenance and have found this an easy engine to work on.

Have done a few improvements to personalise it to meet my needs. Recently fitted a new head unit with blue tooth, satnav, reverse camera and iPod compatibility. It's a cheap Chinese unit but has proved to be fine.

Have been getting approx 31 to gallon combined figure so not too bad for a petrol 2.4 4x4. Not too many of the newer Grand Vitara owners here but happy to chat about the car.

Cheers SZ5.

Cheers @ROBBIE. The SZ5 is the daily runner. Well tempted with an SJ to bring back to good original condition. Funny thing is when the little Suzuki's were first introduced I had a series 2 Landie that I rebuilt. In those days I looked down on the Suzuki thinking it wasn't a proper 4x4. Guess life teaches you to open your eyes.

Been down the Landry path once, had a disco. Comfort second to none, but SJ is the way to go, light weight and easy to work on. Even your vit is too complicated for me

Like the way you are thinking, plus I have so much in the garage I need a small vehicle to work on. Tempted by an MG Midget as well, in fact there are a number of potential project cars I'm tempted with. Just so long as it doesn't have too much electrical jiggery pokery I'd be happy to let the spanners fly.

Got a mate thinking along the MG lines, that or triumph tr6, plenty of spares for them and a good network of people to call on for help

Cheers. There is very little info out there for the newer Grand Vitaras. Like no maintenance manual, I managed to get a CD with Suzuki diagrams. The 2.4 seems a reliable old lump and so far has had oil, filters and plugs changed. Everything quite accessible. Took most of the interior out to fit head unit and get cable through to back door for reverse camera. All done without drilling any holes.
Rebuilt rear disc Calipers as one slider had seized. The sliders will be treated to an annual service to keep them moving. Not much else to report on maintenance.
