Clutch cable needs adjusting?

Post by Phillips321 » Wed Mar 01, 2017 1:34 pm

Hi guys,

When in N and my food off the clutch it sounds like it's rubbing ever so slightly. I also have a problem selecting reverse sometimes as it struggles to go in or grinds, it's almost like I can't press the clutch pedal down enough, is there some sort of cable that can be adjusted to allow me to fix this?

Thanks

Couldn't help but laugh, I don't allow eating in my car for this very reason

I've not worked on the SJ410 but would think that if it has a cable operated clutch there should be an adjuster somewhere.
If it is hydraulic, check the fluid level.
Otherwise, how old / what use has the clutch had - it might be time to renew.

I'm sure others more experienced with SJ's will chip in soon.
Just washed, not a leak from the engine!

I think the noise and finding it hard to select a gear are two different things.

The noise could be either the clutch release bearing or the spigot bearing.

You need less free play to make the clutch release more, if it was too tight however it would slip and gear changes would be easy.

The adjustment is on the driver side of the gearbox on the release arm, you'll need some grips to hold the cable from spinning and a 14mm ratchet spanner or deep socket to take a bit of slack out, you want 2-3cm of free play at the pedal.
