First post from me as a new member
Have had my SJ410Q since 1988
When I bought it was 6 months old
Used it regularly up to 2000
When I'm sad to say it was put it the garage and not touched until now
Having retired recently with more time to play
and get it going once more
So any advice would about where to start would be fantastic
I have drained and flushed the radiator
Going for the oil next
Have added a couple for photos of the poor old girl

Amazing that you've had it since almost new, well done for holding on to it, I bet there are so many people who would have sold it and lived to regret!
Guess you will need a new battery for starters or at least jump leads to turn it over.
Any fuel that's in there will be junk. You'll need to drain the tank and probably clean the carb as any fuel in there will probably have evaporated and left gunk behind.
Check you have a spark and with fresh fuel try and turn her over.
Although, once you have proved it runs it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the cam belt and the water pump.

Awesome that you have had since almost new.
Main advice after its been sat so long. Make sure the engine isn’t seized.
Turn it over by hand. Rocker cover off and drizzle oil over. Plugs out and a squirt of oil into the pots and turn it over by hand.

Am I right in thinking best place to do this is end of the crank shaft pulley bolt in a clockwise direction

Wow well done for keeping hold of it. I stupidly got rid of my 1984 SJ410 in 1996 for a new Samurai and regretted it from day one. Good look with getting it back on the road.
