Hey people, haven't been on here for a loooong time due to me selling the zuk and getting myself a landrover as they were my first love, although Im having withdrawal symptoms, so I may have a look at getting myself another SJ to use as a trial vehicle/pay and play as I dont want to wreck my everyday truck pay and playing it ( I still use it for greenlaning)

Thanks people, I really dunno what attracts me to them but it does, maybe they are fantastic offroad and a few times I have wished I was in the suzuki as opposed to the landrover, it is certainly warmer in there than the landy haha
We are thinking about building an offroader ( like a 4x4 is born) using an SJ with the scouts using all donated parts, not to go on the road purely to use around the campsite for collecting wood etc and possibly to auction off at the end to raise money for a new roof that the hut desperately needs
Suzuki's are dead simple so we are seriously looking into doing it. A few of us are handy with spanners and I know my way around a car so we shouldnt have too many problems, we have a leader that can weld up any holes haha and I can make non structural parts as I am learning to weld too
What do people think, do you reckon we could build a suzuki up using old parts that people may kindly donate?
It doesnt even need a dashboard really or a heater as its not going on the road, so just the basic electrics a few spot lights and front and rear recovery points etc
The scout group have expressed a great interest in doing it and have already been looking them up and texting me idea's

So you're after a rolling chassis, engine, drivetrain and one bucket seat then?
There's three ways of doing things:

Pretty much maybe two bucket seats to have a winch bitch aswell
A few of us have decided to run the build, we have asked the scouts to come up with a list with what they are after with us giving them a push in the right direction
To cut a loong list short here is what they have come up with
1. Rolling chassis ( all parts that bolt to it basically, axles, props etc)
2. Any engine, box and transfer box to start off with, I have told them about the 410 box etc but we want to get it running and driving so anything will do
3. Body tub ( mainly the front seating area and bulkhead ( can patch up if its not too bad) as they want to make a custom back ( not a trayback more a large storage box or something)
4. rear softop door ( to make rear bulkhead like scottie's
5. Doors ( to cut down to make half doors) just to stop the mud coming in
6.Old wings and bonnet, Going to try and make tubular front end but want to keep only front lights for round the campsite to see in the dark
7. Suspension will remain standard as there wont be any arch's so we can fit big wheels as they will tubular on the front and lorry arch or similar on the back
we have had a steering wheel, suzuki Sj boss and steering wheel,battery and some sheet metal donated my friends of mine so far. Just got to have a huuge clearout at my house so we have space to start it, as I have 95% of the tools here so it makes sense to do it at mine. I have also been given by our local nut and bolt place a huge box of odd stainless nuts and bolts all for 5 quid
Ohh and I have been to my local paint place and they said they will try and help as much as they can, and I have contacted withams ( army place) to see if they have any odd half finished tins of paint too
