What is the deal with centre/side vents on the bulkhead?

I have a 1984 SJ410 commercial - it has a vent on the side on the bulkhead, and I've never seen one before - only ever seeing a centre vent.
I discovered this when I went to get bits off another 84 SJ (namely the heater box), which had a centre vent, and discovered it wouldn't fit.

Yours is a very early 410 if it has the side vent.

It’s just and earlier built version registered in the same year as the other 84.
