Greetings from Sumatra, Indonesia
Greetings from Sumatra, Indonesia
Hello all..and greetings from Indonesia..I'm a Brit originally from Dorset, now living in Indonesia on the beautiful island of Sumatra..I'm married and have 2 kids..my wife Yetty is Batak, from the Highland tribes of Lake Toba..I make frequent 2-3 day trips to the jungles in Sumatra and Aceh and the SJ, which they call the Jimny here, is ideal even with kids..I love it because it handles the terrible road conditions very well, deals with mud easily and looks cool, there are no rules here as to what you may or may not put on your car so tyre size, bumpers, window tint are not a problem!!..I also value its economical and environmentally friendly motor, which does a ridiculous amount of km/tank due to the low fuel prices here..you're going to hate me..30p/litre..the only drawback is that cars are terribly expensive here, I'm looking at another really sweet '84 SJ right now priced 40,000,000 Rupiah..that's 2,800 quid! And that's about as cheap as they get! Yep, I know..still, I think I'm going to have to get it!

By the way..Good site, a nice club and I especially appreciate the D.I.Y. section as it's hard to get decent advice here especially in English! Cheers! Andy

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Suzuki Club UK!!! Nice jimny you have there! I guess that it originally came from japan?
Does it have the 660cc engine? With a turbo?
And it looks like you've got some auto freewheeling hubs on there? Nice
Yeah, there is some very handy information in the DIY section. We are currently looking at a re-design of the actual website, I believe there are some more write-ups on the way, so check back soon!
Happy ing!

to :S:cuk matey, I wish you could get sjs that tidy here, there aren't many left in that sort of condition.
What are the specs on your sj, engine etc. Looks like a 410 grill so 970cc maybe?
And 30p a litre, I hate our government add £1 to that and that's what it is over here at the moment

I think it's a 410. The three pot turboosters were almost exclusive to Japan as far as I know (kei cars I think they were called) and they had scoops on the bonnet where the turbo sucked air in from.ScottieJ wrote:What are the specs on your sj, engine etc. Looks like a 410 grill so 970cc maybe?
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Greetings from Sumatra, Indonesia
The 660cc and 550cc's have don't all have the bonnet bulge.
The intercooler one's do, as the intercooler is mounted where the vent is...
I couldn't remember if there are turbo non-intercooled models...
I'm waiting for a 660 owner to see what the engine mounts and gearbox are like
I'm remaining hopeful
The engines are fitted in Cappuccinos and I reckon they could be quite interesting!
It's either that or a twin cam 16v 1600 engine
