hi folks

Post by clunkychunky » Wed May 18, 2011 10:46 pm

hello folks.
i'm new to zooks, been a landy up to now, but got tired of the green oval "in fighting" and general scene, so i bought myself an '89 santana sj410, soft top.
its only for off roading, as its got no i.d,at present.
previous owner went a bit ott with tyres fitting 265/75 r16 in pretty extreme m.t's, and got cheesed of when it kept breaking c.v joints.
so i bought it needing a drivers side c.v joint, and smaller tyres, all arches need welding, and needs serious tidying. but it will ride again, possibly even on the road, as it has a chassis number.
if anyone could point me in direction of somewhere online to get sj parts i'd be grateful, as i live in n.ireland.
i will put some pics up of the sj as it stands in few days.
cheers chunk

:welcome: to :S:cuk matey!

Get some Pics :snap: up, we love pics

As long as you drive with your head and don't bounce tyres and stomp your right foot down all the time SJ CVs will easily hold up to tyres that size with an aggressive pattern  I know someone who runs that size tyre with ARBs front and rear who doesnt go though many CVs! I was also running 33s on 410 axles with a 1.6 8v and 4:1 low box and only broke 1 CV in the year my SJ was on the road with that set up

Is that you on Difflock who was asking about upgrading axles as well? 413 front shafts and CVs (NOT samurai) will fit a 410 axle and the 413 CVs are stronger apparently  There's info on diff interchangability here clicky

Remember that 413 and Samurai axles are different widths, If you want to upgrade It's best to swap to Sammy axles not 413 as they are wider

Here is a How to guide :thumbup: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... jYoLkw3EnA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

yes thats me on difflock, asking.
my machine will prob never see tarmac driving again, so i was thinking of swapping out axles totally for land rover series axles. and rocklobster this box.
series 3 diffs are 4.7:1, and i can get axles at £30 front, £25 rear, obviously drum brakes, but sounds like and upgrade, even if it involves landy parts

i made a decision today, to tray back this beauty as rear arches and floor are rotten :yuk: .
front wings are going and in their place will be tubular supports and plastic panels.
the roll cage will be remanufactured, as its not rigid enough for my liking.
i'm hoping to reduce the weight of the sj to around 700kgs.
do you think it will be possible to get it down to 700kg or am i dreaming? current weight is 823kg. answers on a postcard
