indicators not working grrrrr

Post by bigben » Wed May 25, 2011 7:30 pm

Hi i have been having troubble with my indicators since i bought the car monday they just wont bloody work. Am i right in thinking the relay/flasher is at the top of the fuse pannel? If so this has been moved to the chassy and the wiring extended for some unknown reason to me it is a 4 pin item with what look like the normal wires and an extra one going through a light and down to ground. The item in question is the blue thing lol

ive bashed it and all sorts well what i think is the relay anyway but there seems to be quite a few loose exposed wires maybe thats the case?
I have changed the stalk unit too as to no avail

what the hells up with it? any ideas as i really want to get her on the road now

First things first, is your sj Jap or Spanish? Vin number starts vse for Spanish and jse for Jap.
That way I can look at the right wiring diagram and try and help you work out what colour wires are supposed to go where.

Secondly what the hell is that blue thing? is it some sort of relay?

well it says JSA on the log book lol
I havent a clue what it is but it looks to have been put in place of whatever was above the fuses looks to have been a 3 pin relay but this ones 4 pin.

It is a 410 on a c plate if that helps mate

Well all I can offer is info on my 1986 413 and hope there the same :salute:

That blue unit looks like a relay normally used inside industrial panels. I've got hundreds like that in panels at work!!!
I believe the indicator relay is the round aluminium body unit with 3 wires. And the colours look like they may be the same as mine.

The one just above the fusebox is the indictor relay. That's why I thought yours may of been different as there's nothing in yours.

Mayhemmiller may well be right. Unscrew the fusebox and have a look whats been bodged on the back. Took a couple of pics of my relay anyway for future reference.

yep thats deffo the case they have sniffed the old spade connectors off and lengthend the wires to the dodgy looking blue one so now ive got to try and find another bugger hope that will fix it. All i need to know now is why on the blue one is there an extra pin that goes to a small light then out of the light to ground??

thanks for all the quick help so far lads :salute:
