I'm glad you stuck with it, it wasn't such a big job after all was it? I hate the wittering bit, where you worry about doing a job before you get to it,

Fixed my headlight problem though. The wiring had split and frayed completely about 2 inches away from the plug on the Red with white stripe wire, so dip beam didn't work. Replaced it with a cable from an old dyson. That should last a long while. :brows:

Blew down the hose outlet again. There's a fair bit more crap collected in the filter after that last attempt, so I guess just keep blowing back until it stops doing it, and replace the filter as and when.

yeah that is the best bet, if you keep doing it you will eventually clean it all out

Mum and Stepdad want to get a new tank for it. :er: I've been told to ask you guys some questions.

Apparently there's two types? Clip on or bolt on senders?

Do they have part numbers?

What are the dimensions approximately?

Is it just four bolts and undoing the hoses to take it off, or is there more to it than that?


Sounds a bit like overkill to me, but.... :|

Mine's the early pre-1984/5 version.

Is your sj jap or Spanish? Jap generally have screw in senders with 1 wire and Spanish have clip in and 2 wires I think.

I think that's theft right way around, might be best to drop it and look though, the most important bit is how many wires it has.

And yep 4 bolts, the hoses and sender wires and out it comes :thumbup:

Count yourself lucky.

I went to hill and ditch a few years ago (sand quarry)

The tank is still around somewhere, 1/2 full of petrol and half full of sand :thumbdown:


You can make your sender fit the tank designed for the other sender (if you get me) I did do it once, ill find the tank and pop some pics up \ :tongue:

hi im having similer problems with my sj 413 i belive it to be a standered carb and when the guy who i got it from got it it come with two extra carbs . so the guy sent it to the garage and had the carb stripped down and rebuilt but never made 2 much difference to it. on start up you can smell petrol in the air and sounds as if it only running on 3 cylinderes. then if it been stood for a little while you have to clean the plugs as they are covered in black soot. any help would be great thanks
