Changed the fuel pump but theres something wrong

Post by Smalljeep » Wed Jun 01, 2011 10:06 pm

i swapped round the fuel pump to cure the oil leak which i believe is actually the gasket not the pump.
But anyhow now the problem is that when the cars not got any revs on it it just cuts out, say your coasting down a hill it turns off, or if you want to go really slowly in low range it cuts out and i need it for the really slow quiet mode.
so what could it be? a fubard pump or just a turn of something at the carb, i know how to adjust the idle speed but i didnt need more revs before i changed the pump.

Could be the diaphram in the pump? Id put the old one on and see if the problem is still there?

If not put a new gasket in with the old pump :smokin:

Use cardboard from a cereal packet, with some blue hylomar as a sealant have done that in the past on my old cars and havent had a problem. Instant gasket goo can have some strange reactions with oil and petrol. ;)
It' a 4x4 why not drive it across a field

i put the old pump back on and it still runs like sh1t.
is it petrol? i put £20 in it and its only did 23 miles of quite hard driving and idling.

what sort of electric fuel pump could i replace the mechanical one with?

I dont know what pressure its putting out, how do you measure it?
i had the anus out last night going slow in low range and it was terrible it was jumpy and all wrong, it stalled and i left it in the field, went back this afternoon and it drove back to the shed ok but its still going poop, here is how its idling at the moment:
