Newbie from Norfolk :) A few questions included!

Hi guys and girls, thought Id better post in here! Ive recently bought an SJ413 with a few mods and have a few questions (I already posted in Suspension forum re: what Im running)
Firstly, not sure what suspension setup I have going on, maybe add-a-leafs?

FRONT:


REAR: Very long shackles, not too keen! But yet sits the same as the front, with short shackles?!


Also shocks have been mounted in the middle via what looks like a piece of angle. But they dont fit well as the shocks are fitted 45degs thru the angle which is still horizontal. This causes them to bang about when bouncing over stuff, bit of a bodge in my eyes :(



The shocks seem to be KYB ones, with a "__cel-g" or something on a label but some is missing. Also have a pic of the part numbers


Found the reverse lights dont work and have found what I assume is the switch on top of the box, with 2 electrical connections on top and nothing going to them. Where are these wires likely to be hiding? It had a clutch not too long ago by previous owner so Im guessing they havent been re-connected

And one last thing, where is this wire on the bottom of the distributor supposed to go?
Its only short.


Come pay day it'll be getting a good service with new plugs/leads/dizzy cap/ rotor arm, oil filter and diff oils, brake pads, fluid etc

It seems to use alot of fuel for such a small engine, is this normal? The gauge is pretty hopeless it bounces all over the place but seems to use £20 of fuel quicker than my Clio 172 would being driven hard lol

They look like lift springs on the front, and standard springs on the back.

I think the wire on the bottom of the dizzy is a earth. There should be another similar wire attached to the body that it plugs into.

The shocks on the back are probably astra shocks commonly used on SJ's because there cheep. I have them on mine, but there not at a angle like that. You should be able to drill some new holes in the angle bar and mount them a bit straighter.

What looks different between front and rear for you to suggest that? Theres 4 springs all round but I cant tell the difference, being new to leaf springs lol

Is the earth essential to it functioning properley? I'll take a look!

Just googled the part number along with KYB and sure enough they're for Astras and Daewoo's which are effectively the same underneath so good guess

So a good angle would be somewhere between straight up and where they are now?

The front springs have a nice curve to them = lift, + 4 leafs = heavy duty.
The rear springs look pretty standard but have gone flat, this happens when lift shackles are fitted without extending the bump stops as the springs can be overstressed the wrong way.

The whole engine block will be earthed so it doesn't really need that earth, but as Suzuki added it I would connect it. The should be a matching wire coming from the bulkhead.

Welcome, I am from Norfolk as well, will be back there during the summer so will have to meet up. Seems to be a fair few people popping up from the east of England.

Those front springs look like lift springs to me, not standard ones with an add-a-leaf as they have military wrap.

The shocks are astra gas shocks, I would modify the rear adapter bar so that the shocks are not as angled in at the top, it will ride a lot better and is easy to Do. I will dig out a pic for you.
