Ok so the interior rust removal hasn't exactly gone to plan! Luckily my
Neighbour lent me a grider. Every time I ground out a bit of rust it just lead onto more hidden rust :( I have ended up cutting out the back of the boot floor plus the panel behind the ns arch :( so now it has some nice big holes, oh and managed to cut through the rear light wire! IDIOT!
I'm going to have to get a plate made for each bit iv cut out :(
So not the best day for me really :(
Oh
And iv found the arches are looking worse than I thought after a bit of poking around :(

Sorry to here it didn't go well. Your not alone, I've learnt not to poke about too much unless you have all day to repair it. Last time I poked about with the arch the whole lip/edge broke off. I just cut a bit off and welded some new steel plate in. looks crap but does the job.

Eek! Yeh to be fair I have seen much worse on a lot younger car, just a bit of a shock as it only looked like a few patches.
As long as I can get the elecs sorted and can find someone to do some neat welding I will be happy for now....
What's the general done thing when welding the rear of the boot? I'm guessing il need to take the fuel tank off for safety....
I know I prob shouldn't of gone poking around, but it would only of got worse...

yes was very eek
my petrol tank was in boot so i had to take it out as im in the process of rebuilding my truck but take the petrol tank out for saftey
look out for more wires if there is any , cut out all the rust weld the new plate in painted the welded area with red oxide then got some seam sealer (get the brush on one in paint pot not in a tube its better in the long run ) then sanded it flat ish then just paint over with hammerite thats it too it really jobs a gooden and do this to the inside and outside/underneath , hope this makes sense

Ye makes sense
Il be painting it white inside to match the rest, and will prob hammerite it underneath
Hope the plates look gash tho! But better solid than holy! Lol

No need to remove the fuel tank, I never have. Can you post some pics of the rot now? Its the typical SJ thing, we thought we had a few hours of welding to do on my dads tintop, turned into a few weekends
I wouldn't bother with hammershite, id clean up any rust, use a good primer and then underseal. shultz and tetroseal work well.

Yeh il get some pics up but can only come on here on my phone at home as don't have a comp! Lol
Isn't underseal the black sticky stuff? All the under arches etc. are white and was going to try keeping it that way (if they do white hammershite?)
If I leave the tank in I'd struggle to get to the underside to paint the new plate etc.
But if the welder is prepared to weld it with it on at least I can get it welded, then back home, then take the tank off and paint it at my own leisure
P.s. you found that badge? (although that's the least of my worries now lol)
