My Off Road SJ413 Samurai Project
Re: My Off Road SJ413 Samurai Project
It's a pain in the a**!! Spits a lot, and is very thin so heats up quicker than the sheet metal. I've not actually welded any of it yet, both me and my mate are qualified welders but so far he has done all welding, there's plenty more welding yet though, I'm just locating some tube and a bender to build an external cage, tray back and tube the front. We havnt done anything like this before but hopefully will all work out well!!

Re: My Off Road SJ413 Samurai Project
Well we have had an afternoon working on the SJ again (Saturdays is the day we get to work in the garage!)
The boot floor is now finished, a hole has been made ready for the filler neck (this will be fitted to the back door when that is bolted back on and permanently closed!). the centre tunnel is also now finished, the roof and sides have been gone over to make sure all rivet holes have been filled, boot floor and all welding on back has had one coat of primer and the roof and LH side have had their first coat of fibreglass.
I have pictures and will add in the morning.
Next weekend we will be making an exhaust, fitting the fuel tank and pipes and making some new body mounts as it currently only has 2 still bolted on! we may also get around to fitting the back door ans permanantly securing it in place. also there is a lot of welding still to do under the boot floor which you will see in pictures so we will hopefully get that all welded up too.
hope you like the progress so far when pics are added

Well, saturday we got a bit more welding done, only had a couple hours though so just welded up the passenger foot well and welded up the 4 circle holes in front foot wells. we also sat the tank under the boot floor to start marking out for fabricating new brackets up for it. we have spent most of the weekend lifting, body lifting and changing panels/ electrics on my mates trooper

Several 10mm holes will be drilled, them others were much too big, I would be driving down road watching tarmac beneath me!
Re: My Off Road SJ413 Samurai Project
you do realise you can buy rubber bungs for those holes don't you?Jay30685 wrote:Several 10mm holes will be drilled, them others were much too big, I would be driving down road watching tarmac beneath me!
Re: My Off Road SJ413 Samurai Project
It had rubber bungs in them, but I'd rather just weld up and drill better sized holes!
