Edd's Suzuki Samurai, never ending project.

Post by 4x4edd » Sat Apr 20, 2013 12:24 am

Hey all.
Been here a while now but not commented a lot. but the site and people on it are spot on for helping.

Anyway My truck has had a few bits done to it but the floor holding the brake peddle finally gave in the other day and I'm fed up of patching up and seeing how it goes so I've made the decision to strip it completely and and make its a machine and a half.

Only problem is I'm still learning so if anyone see's something they think is wrong then let me know as advice is always welcome.

Anyway I'll start new the beginning and work my way to the present.

This is the day I bought the truck

Not long after getting it home and a few trips out, the front axle spat all its oil out and had been making a weird noise so it was stripped, removed part of a shaft that had been left in there from the old owner, new seals and painted, the brakes also had bit of a touch up.

After that I got some wheel spacers as I was finding that it was grabbing in the ruts made by the wider land rovers. then it was a quick flex test on my drive :doublethumbs: Also fitted a Warn winch, which I must say has saved some landys

Then in all my wisdom I decided that I didn't want to rip the soft top, so bought a bikini top and thought I'd make a back window. This didn't go too well but did last a while.

Just noticed My pics are all over the place so going to skip the rest, like re-building the rear axle after breaking it, plus putting a right locker in (got another thread with that on) larger wheels and tyres, different back again, broken this and broken that ha.
Anyway Thursday I got down to removing the shell, not easy on your own, but I managed it :-). But here are the last lot of pics for now. have a list I'm writing up of this I want to do, like sorting out the mess of wiring in it and strengthening.

Now I think its time for a clean up and get the welder out. which is yet to arrive, oops.

Wish me luck
And any advice would be greatly appreciated

Edd

nice truck man, love the look with the roll cage.
I was just looking, and does the carb have a filter on the air intake? The other thing I wanted to ask, how well do those cooper tires perform? I saw an add for these the other day, and might get a price on them, they seem to be really high quality tires, and the tread patern also looks quite good
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

Cheers man.
Yea there's a pipe that comes off the carb and up to a filter on the roof, home made snorkel ha.
Yea these tyres are great, got them in 31's at the mo. tread is great, seems to be good in snow, mud and on rocks.

Got a little list.

Strip shell
Weld/straighten shell
New shell mounts
Paint body
Extended Arches
Clean, paint, wax oil chassis
New mount for transfer box
Clean engine
Change gearbox
Change transferbox
New/repair exhaust
Straighten bumper (after bumping it in the snow)
Straighten and paint roll cage
Check both axles
Strengthen axles
Check over brakes
Sort out washer bottle and sprayers
Tidy all the wiring as its in a mess and I don't know know what half them are there for
Move both batteries to the back out of the engine bay

Centre console to include:-
Radio, CB, fan switch, rear light switch, spots switch fuel pump switch, engine start button, engine cut off, heater levers, air vents, fuses, cigarette lighter.

New door seals
New breather pipes for axles, t-box and gearbox
New back and roof
New snorkel
New steering pump
New drive shafts
New seats
New air compressor in the back, for tyres and maybe horn.

Sure theres more but thats what I've got so far.

Had a bad day today, got the shell onto a table but the thing collapsed a while later and fell into the side of the house, not the best start to the project. So to cheer me up I went to see a mate mending his Land rover, always cheers me up seeing that :hahaha: :hahaha:
