Welcome, a great looking SJ, I like how original it seems - the antirollbar is nice to see, most people just throw them away! Scottie on heres a good welder and really familiar with an sj, if i was you id be tempted to drop it off at his workshop and pay him to do it, I have a family with x2 kids too and they take up nearly all my time, it makes it hard to do anything but the smallest suzuki jobs, unfact stripping the body off would be totally unthinkable for me! As for your SJ, it looks tidy apart from the rust, if it was mine id be on the look our for some original commercial wheels, the pepperpot type you have fitted are nice, but is have thought it would have come with commercial rims.

She did come with different wheels but because she had sat in a barn for 6 years the tyres knackered i niavely swapped with a friend who has these nearly new for 50 quid. I also ended up with a set of vitara wideboys rims. They look so cool on the sj but i dont think the studs are long enough, plus they stick out a couple inches!!

Sounds like you got a good deal on the sj and on the wheels if it was sat for 6 years it couldnt have been in a great shape with no mot or tax. Does it have mot and tax now

Yes all road legal now. Has been for couple years now. After sitting for 6 years, all she required for mot was a small plate near throttle pedal and a headlight bulb! Surprised at the amount of rust but i think it will need to be done for this years mot in october. Now thinking against body removal tho! Will keep you all posted with what happens. Thanks for feedback.

oooh another SJ Van!

have a look through my build thread, mine was extremely rotten so i done a virtual lift, welded in 3" wide arches and slapped a set of wideboy vitara wheels on it...

ive only ever seen two sammy Van Backs and yours is one, the other was on ebay, seen about 3 sj410 van backs and mine is one of them...

if i could id have a whole fleet of them lol...

yours looks nice and clean, i think virtual lift is the best way to got as it will eliminate the rotting arches that SJ's are prone to...

Thats looks a really good job you done there very strong and i like the sill piece you put in.
I think once i remove arches i will be looking at something similar. There doesnt seem to be alot holding it together.

How do you find driving/offroading with the wider wheels? Did they require any modifications to fit?
I have a similar set id like to fit. Think they are vitara wideboy 15x8 wheels? The nuts only screw on 6 threads so think i need longer studs?
I would like to extend and virtual lift the arches to suit the wheels but think it would silly with a virtual lift with standard wheels. Here s couple pics with the fronts fitted. i expect some fairly large tyres would fit them too

15x8s are about right for a 31/10.50/15 or tyre of similar width.

A lot of 4x4 tyre places i spoke to didn't recommened anything wider as they don't sit right and wear badly.

mine are vitara wideboy wheels, all i got was new alloy wheel nuts and mine fitted fine, you may need to trim the bumper mounts either end, you may need to virtual lift, i already done my virtual lift before i fitted them to my zuk, as long as your tires dont scrub when on full lock you should be fine, as for the studs, they should be okay but i dont know about extended studs :/
