Hello from North Wales

Post by dave_dub86 » Thu Sep 12, 2013 10:51 am

Hi all,

Myself and a pal are planning on doing the Mongol Rally next July, so in preparation we've just bought a 1985 SJ410 tintop. We've bought a couple of upgrades already, such as free wheeling front hubs and we're probably going to be putting a 5 speed in it to make cruising speeds a bit easier on the engine, and a roll cage for safety.

We've already gained some valuable information from reading through this forum already so we're looking forward to sharing our trip preparation and no doubt there will be plenty of threads from us asking how to do things!

Dave

Welcome to SCUK.

Sound like a hell of trip.

Edit:- i just read even more about and its mental. Reminds of the likes of the Banger Ball. Sounds like amazing fun. Hope you complete it and don't run out of cash!

reading on the website i love how they are all jokey about the rally, then at the end just slip in 'you might die'..... but definately jealous, and best of luck!

Thanks everyone, yes I think it's a bit of a once in a lifetime experience, I've worked long hours all my life so far, so haven't had the chance to do any travelling so this ticks a few boxes for me.

Honest opinions on the reliability of the 1 litre SJ engine for long distance trips?

Does it really matter if its a minter or not? it doesnt i dont think its still cool to drive that distance no matter if its a rotton one or a good condition one.
