Gday - New member Cass in the UK after 23 years in Oz

Post by Cass » Wed Sep 18, 2013 10:28 pm

Gday all,

As you can see I am new to the forum.

Historically I am a Landcruiser Troop Carrier driver (Queensland Australia). Now I am back in the UK I am planning to buy a Jimny (recognised down under too). I expect to be using one off road for work (arborist-tree assessor on HV Powerlines) in Devon/Cornwall, I will also have assessment work (non utility) in London too (small car :doublethumbs:).
Questions are how does the Jimny go with towing a trailer (DR650 my other love) and what is the ultimate set up for road smart/legal with reasonable clearance for off road.

I am open to buying a good rig off one of you guys, keen on a 2001 to 2004 model subject to further advice.
Cheers Cassian... :salute:

Hello mate welcome!
A lot of members of this forum are SJ owners but are all friendly and always willing to help. Both a member and on another forum called ww.bigjimny.com you might find the other forum a bit more help on Jimny's!
On the other hand I'm a jimny owner and they sound perfect for what you are describing with a few little mods and a good set of tires ground clearence is not an issue and I have also read plenty of blogs about people using them to tow caravans, camping trailer and like you bike trailers!
W reg jimny, 31" trekker on 15x8 mods, ora 4.5 lift, poly bushed, pro-comp shocks, braided brake lines, sj 410 transfer box with 6.5.1 tg gears, KAP stainless exhaust, custom snorkel and extended arches!

Hi :welcome: My son on law tows his gardening trailer with all his work gear and what ever he has picked up a d that can get quite heavy and a mate tows his caravan so your bike should be no problems. Both have 2 inch lift, heavy duty bumpers and a winch. One has a full cage and both behave well on road and are great off it
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good
