Hi there,
I'm totally new to this forum thing and totally new to the sj thing. I collected my first sj samuari yesterday as I have always wanted to go off road round our local lanes.
I think I may have brought a pup....
It has been stood for 12 months and needs an alternator ( already ordered )
When I took it off the trailer I pulled the hand break and a loud ping and now nothing. So then I pushed the break pedal straight to the floor just stopped it from a very slow roll but really nothing there.
So then I thought I would just put it in gear and I can't select a gear (don't know if this has anything to do with not running for 12 months)
Any advice greatly welcome. Cheers.

How sloppy is the gear stick? May just have snapped the locating bolt (pence from Suzuki, 5min job)
Brakes are probably seized and have no fluid in them or require bleeding. Check the reservoir and the calipers / pistons for leakage. Reservoir seals have a habit of going. Again only a couple of quid from Suzuki.

welcome. sound like you have a few problems if it has been sitting for a while i would give everything a quick check over/grease up/oil change etc . then strip down the broken parts and have a look what has gone wrong and give them a rebuild. with new/good second hand parts.

Cheers guys, there is a little play. The sj came with a spare gear box and a spare transfer box.
The guy assured me it was all running fine until the alternator packed up and he seemed like a good guy and I believe him.
He did say sj breaks need bleeding a lot.

It is quite clean and solid underneath, it has a webber carb is that good or bad? thanks for all the help guys...
i really want to get it sorted and fit a winch...

Welcome to the club.
Vehicles left standing for a long time can cause the clutch to stick to the flywheel. The easiest way to release it is to put it in a high gear, press clutch pedal fully, press the brakes (you may have to chock the wheels ) and then try starting it. Hopefully that will release it.
