Hello guys,
Got myself a 410 a few weeks back. I swapped it for my V8 Discovery, as it was horrendous on petrol, and quite poor offroad.
Thought I'd introduce myself here. Was recommended this forum by a friend on facebook, so hopefully I can get some of the answer to my questions.
So I got into the 4x4 scene when I Was about 13. My 'rents bought a Pajero to tow the speedboard with when we were living in Cyprus. My Dad and I would take the Pajero out into the bondus and desert land.
Moved back to UK in 2001, and then started driving in 2005. Didn't get my first 4x4 until last year though.
I picked up a Daihatsu Feroza through work. Needed a few bits to get it going, but it turned out to be a cracking off road...
But, I was green laning in December with a friend, and my girlfriend. Unfortunately we backed up a little far, slipped off the byway, and rolled sideways to the bottom of this pond/ditch.
Result: My Girlfriend broke her collar bone
I had a bit of time out after that. And then picked up this about 2 months ago:
Completely wrong for what I wanted, but I got it for £280, and it flew through it's MOT.
Stuck it up for best swap/offer, and ended up driving away this little gem:
And after much tinkering, modding, stripping, and a bit of cash, it currently looks like this:
Still a long way to go. A friend is making up some alloy tread-plate covers for the two 'bumpers' I've made. And I will also be making up a removable hard top for the cab.
I was an external cage fitting, even if it's just a double loop, over the cab, as I do not expect my girlfriend to come out with me until it's 100% safe to roll.
So yeah... Sorry for the long post. I will report back on Sunday evening after I've been off road in it (first time I will have taken it off the tarmac since buying it).
Ben

Welcome to the club!
I'd lose the spare on the bonnet, there's very little weight on the back of an SJ as it is, adding more to the front is not really a good idea...the handling must be 'interesting'...

If it ticks over...leave it

Can't say I've noticed yet to be honest. I stuck it there because I simply couldn't get it in the back anywhere I liked it.
I've got a big ammo box bolted down in the middle of the bed now, with a jack, and socket set in etc. So there is a fair bit of weight in the back now, along with the 100x100 box section rear bumper.
I'll see how it goes on Sunday.

Get a carrier and stick the spare on the back door.
Oh and prepare to have your mind blown on your test this weekend.
