New to Suzukis, from Kent.

Good evening all, I've recently picked up a 23 year old Vitara swb hard top.
I've just managed to get an afternoon of tinkering in and managed to change he drivers door as the one it came with was previously damaged when the tame was pulled out at the top by thieves.
Plenty more to tinker with.
It's incredibly oily around the sump. Is this common?

Welcome to the club!

No, it shouldn't be oily, have a good look around for a leak somewhere, rocker box is a common leak area.
If it ticks over...leave it

Welcome to the club.

Dizzy housings often leak and run down the back of the engine. Again, if it's the back of the engine could be crank seal or gear box. If it's all over everywhere pressure wash it and see where it develops first.

It's at the front of the engine, all over everything, it all seems pretty dry at the top. I notice oil formig drips from the nuts holding the sump. And thanks for he welcome chaps.

I had a problem with mine leaking oil out of the front... it was dripping straight on the fan belt and spraying the whole engine bay! I think I copped out and fixed it with a different engine haha

Could just need a new sump gasket, or the sump bolts could be loose, be very careful tightening sump bolts though, they are very small and shear easily if torqued up too much.

As said through a good degrease and clean of the engine will help locate the source of any oil leaks.

I'll give it a good clean at the weekend then go for a good run and see how I get on.

Which components need to come off for a sump gasket change? And is it an easy job for a newbie to mechanics?

Fairly sure it's just drain the oil, undo the bolts and gently ease it out.
