Re: Hi Sammy
Thats a nice looking motor and un-molested as well, just one question why do you change the cambelt every 5 thousand miles as they should last much longer than that ?? i accept that its cheaper in theory to replace the belt rather than a expensive engine rebuild.Or prehaps i am missing something.

Re: Hi Sammy
Nice SJ and welcome to Suzuki club UK.
Glad to hear it's so well looked after but yes changing the Cambelt every 5thousand miles is a bit of a waste of money really when you could easily leave it 5x that long, the service manual just says to inspect every 24000. especially if it doesn't go offroad much. The engines are a none interference design so even if the Cambelt did break it would not do any damage.

Re: Hi Sammy
Yes cambelt change is a bit early i guess..was just worried about it breaking prematurely ..
I read sometime ago that if it happens on this vehicle the pistons get friendly with the valves
perhaps thats not right ???????

Re: Hi Sammy
Not on these engines no, being none interference, the valves don't open down into the cylinder as far so even with open valves, if the piston came right up they would not make contact.
