vitara engine swap

Post by lewis1403 » Tue May 06, 2014 7:54 am

Hi I bought my 1994 vitara fatboy 1.6 8v from eBay with possible engine damage so I went and picked up and engine which later turned out to be the efi engine and not the carb version are there any places I can look in peperticular or is there another engine that will fit in my vitara without too much modification?
Thanks lewis

If it was an 8V EFI engine then you can run it if you also fit a low pressure fuel pump. What tests have you done to determine if there is any engine damage?

As said the EFi lump can be ran on a carb, just need to swap a few bits off the old lump and fit a fuel pump.

Hi thanks for the replies. The engine had a knock that sounded like it was coming from the bottom end when a mechanic looked at it he played with the dizzy cap twisting it and managed to make it tickover without the knock but revs where then inconsistent and we kind of got stuck there so I went to buy the efi engine...... Mechanic took old carb engine out and then said it wouldn't work I'm guessing this is more down to laziness/incompitence.
Thanks Lewis
