just bought my first sj samuri :)
Re: just bought my first sj samuri :)
Dont panic!
Photos will make everything look worse.
The vehicles probably been standing a while
So everything corroids up especially if its been parked up
Muddy.
If the shocks work okay when you take them
Off you can just clean them up or replacement one's
Can be purchased on ebay for 16 quid each.
Sorting the spring mounts will be simple enough if you
Can or know someone who welds.
Axles cases should be simple enough to get If it is bent
Or you can probably pick up a complete axles for 30-50 quid
Theres plenty of suzuki breakers on ebay and Facebook.
Just shop about. Mike harris is a regular member and breaker
on here and can probably help with parts should you need them.

What Andy said...shocks are dirt cheap, and your little zook will look amazing when you are finished...just keep at it, it'll be worth it in the end.
And do you have your text set in Haiku mode Andy?

Re: just bought my first sj samuri :)
Also are there any brands of shocks I should avoid and any really good ones which you would recommend??
Re: just bought my first sj samuri :)
quite a few people on here have used kyb brand shocksJordanquin wrote:Also are there any brands of shocks I should avoid and any really good ones which you would recommend??
With no problems.
If you want to keep things cheap and reliable. I would change the car
Back to spring under axle and run standard parts. The tyres currently
Fitted dont need that much lift anyway. The way that ssuspension and
Steering has been done id imagen it drives like a bag o bollocks.
What spare suspension parts came with the car?

Re: just bought my first sj samuri :)
Yeah my mate says it's not great handling, and when it's parked up when you push it the steering wheels all wobbles and everything so I imagine it's going to be quite bad at any speed. And I got new springs with what looks like new bushes.
I think that is it, I'm currently sorting everything out so I will get pictures of everything I've got and put some pics of them on as some of the bits I'm unsure what they are off.
Even if I put the springs under axle I will only loose two inches won't it? And if the handling is better then it will be better to drive and probably better off reading?

Re: just bought my first sj samuri :)
I think spring over gives around 4 or so inches but
A badly made spoa will give poor handling and cause other
Issues if the geometry is out. Things like bumpsteer , uj and spring damage.
Sjs on smaller wheels tend to slide on the diffs when in ruts and catch the fuel tank.
Bigger tires give better clearance for this but if you can
Chop the arches out to clear larger tyres (look up virtual lift) you can
Keep the vehicles centre of gravity lower and more stable. Which
Is handy for a car you plan to use on the road. Fuel tank can be relocated
In the rear of the vehicle.
Keeping the running gear standard keeps stuff cheap.
For example
Brake pipe flexi
Set of 3 standards £24 delivered
Set of 3 extended £45 plus postage
Shocks
Standard kyb set of 4 £55 posted
Rough country extended set £160 plus postage.
Etc etc.

Oh right so it may make it better in ways lowering it then? Also if it has been done this badly what else could it have damaged and would this have caused the axle to become bent??
Also I have a few pictures of the spares I got with it along with the new springs that come in with ok bushes?? I don't know why two of the bushes have been cable tied on though?

Also you may be able to see the brand new "u" bolts, I've got 4 of these, will these be suitable and also I have 4 belts which are all different sizes and have different teething patterns, would anybody know what these are for as I don't know why there would be four unless I'm forgetting something completely obvious?
