If you used semi synthetic or fully synthetic on an engine that have been ran on mineral oil all it's life it cleans out some of the sludge that has built up on seals etc causing them to leak more.

At full chat going up a hill there was very little smoke if any (prob carbon) .. I tilted the wing mirror to see the exhaust so am going by. I'll get the valve seals done. I don't think it's the head gasket as its smoke not steam.

A cheap filter can cause issues with excessive oil pressure.

It only does it on Startup/rev when cold... when its warmed up i can rev the nuts off it and there is no white/blue smoke... I will check what kind of oil i put in, it was cheap universal stuff but im pretty sure it was semi synth.
The filter was changed but was an OEM replacement so should be ok.

A little vid of the issue.. I had started it a couple of seconds before but the cam fell off its perch so killed the motor and did a second take. Normally it smokes as soon as it starts a bit as well.
Aaron have you done a compression test? My 410 engine reads 175 across all 4. Not bad at all.

Is the smoke is mostly on start up and isa when it's warm it more than likely is just the valve stem oil seals.

Cheers for the replies lads, i presume "isa" was "disappears"?? if so yeah it vanishes 99% when warm, the warmer the less smoke.
I dont have the gear for a comp test.. Maybe Twiss does?? nudge nudge.. if not ill go to a local mechaninc and get him to test it or lend me the gear.
I did call the parts bloke who is also a mechanic and he told me that a comp test proves nothing with regards to burning oil because the oil ring might be broken/worn but the compression ring will be ok so psi will be good but still burning oil through rings, dont know how true this is??
Ive watched every video on youtube of cars with leaky valve seals and im pretty sure thats my issue, esp that i have JUST (1 week ago) changed the oil and now all of a sudden this happens, plus once warm there is no smoke, and its very grey. Rings i think produce more blue smoke and will always produce smoke under load even when warmed up?

I think if your piston rings were going if would produce smoke under load no matter how warm the engine was... when the piston rings went on my old fiesta I could drive for a mile, look back, and the start point would still be in a cloud of lingering blue smoke

Are you sure that its not excess fuel? oil smoke is usually blue, not gray.
