I pushed the LJ out of the shed today and washed off all the pigeon ....t, here are a few photos. I am going to paint a spare grill in the same colour as the wheels.

Excellent work!
So very nice to see stock LJ's being reborn....... compared (IMHO) to that LJ monstrocity listed on eBay yesterday. :yuk:

It took a bit of finding, but I am guessing you are talking about the LJ3.9v8 (picture below). It is not something I could do or have the imagination for, but you must give credit to the incredible amount of hours have been put into that project.

Okay, so I cannot get on with the engine right now so I am going to look at the seats.
I have got one original LJ80 seat and two well worn SJ410 seats.

I have taken the original cover off one of the SJ seats and unpicked it for a pattern. Then I have bought a couple of meters of fabric of similar grain to the original LJ seat.

Then, no rocket science here, I have cut out the new fabric as per the original patterns.

I will come back once I have had a go stitching it together.

My skills on a sewing machine are rusty and limited at best, here is a seat face that I have just unpicked the back off because the alignment went wrong. I am hoping to get the covers finished tomorrow (hoping).

Looks impressive!

Couple of questions, I can't quite make out but have you sewn in edge piping or is it just folded over corners? and are both left and right seats identical?

Thanks

Looks can be deceptive!

This is actually the first one I did and have come back to it to improve it.
You are right about the piping, this was sewn on 'by eye' (should've gone to specsavers). You can follow the wiggly line around the edge of the back face.
The seats are almost identical, the SJ seats have the tilt mechanism that is handed and has to be accommodated.

I did not manage to finish them today, but hopefully the next photo will be seats recovered.

This is coming along brilliantly. Very nice work indeed. I too like that monster LJ...

Seats are all stitched together, 9990 hours to go before I qualify as a trimmer.

I have got a mixed pair of seat rails which I need to even up before they can be bolted into the LJ,
that should not take to long.

I have got some body work / painting to do but I would really like to get an engine in next somehow?
