hi, no a bad earth won't hold relay on, infact the complete opposite. it will keep swicthing off.
what rating relay r u using?
what fuse have u used?
what size/power of fan?
doesn't sound like cheap comp's 2me, sounds more like incorrect ratings.
where r u from? i'm in brighton and would be happy to have a look 4u if near by.

30a relay, 25a or 20a fuse (i think), kenlow fan...

I'm just confused as it's worked fine for a year!!!
and the problem is quite intermittent as well, working ok today hmmmm

30amp relay is fine but if your using standard blade fuses then although they can take the current they aren't good at taking it for extended periods of time. is the fan on a switch that u may be leaving on for to long? or r u using temperture control?
had the same problem with my brothers 4track. the fuse didn't blow but melted. changed for a 30 amp cartridge/strip fuse, the 1's like ford use in their under bonnet fuse boxs that bolt in rather than push fit and problem solved.
seem to cause a problem when the push fits get a bit older and dirty, which of course they will.
use a bolt together connection and end of problem.
i have some spares let me know if u need a hand.

I've had another look and it's actually a 15a fuse... fan can't be drawing very much then!!!

It's definitely the fuse and holder... Started to get a bit hot last night... opened the bonnet and the fan had stopped...
Tapped the fuse and away it went

I might have to take you up on the decent fuse offer

What you doing later? I got the g/f staying with me so may be required to stay at home this week

If anyone is interested... fan kept stopping working last night...

So I angrily yanked the fuse out, which left the wire bit of the fuse in the holder and pulled the coloured plastic bit clean off!!!
It works now!

So I put the cover back on the fuse holder and all is now good! Got a constant connection for the fan so it works!

That's one way to sort it

Yeah I figure it's OK as the fuse holder is made of rubber, and it has a cover that goes on it...
Easy to check it it's blown as well

Well, I put the fuse holder on... now it's a drive around to see if it keeps working
