Just eBay hif44 I think they came off metros & V8 rovers as well as many others, as your a welder tigging up a manifold should be a piece of p*ss and you will have it running better in no time at all,

Can't tig weld. Just ARC and MIG. Guess you can still make up an adapter in steel? Is it just two plates needed on a 90 degree elbow?

V8 rovers! My friend at work has a old Rover V8 engine sat in a old range rover at his farm, he said i could have them for free! Sorted. What about the jetting/set up of the carbs, obviously if it has come from a V8 its got to be well to rich for the 1.6 engine?

I'm not sure there is a thread kicking about somewhere, I think its red spring but I'm not sure (i run a weber) most people get the bits from burlen fuel systems - I can't link on my phone so you will have to Google them

If your wanting a 90 degree adaptor steel will be fine, if you wanted the modified inlet manifold I think you would need to learn how to tig!

*edit*
Here is the link to what bits you will need

Whats the difference?

A modified manifold blanks the top mount for the carb and creates one on the side as this is how SU's should be mounted

Where as adapters fix to the SU and curve usually 90deg to bolt to the standard suzuki carb mount and can be prone to freezing.

The 90 adaptor bolts on and you can get 'carb freeze' in cold weather, there are mods you can do to stop it happening, sometimes you have to cut a hole in your bonnet for the dash pot to sit through... but it depends how high you make the adaptor. The nodded manifold is cut and shutted to make it a side draft manifold instead of a down draft, it keeps your carb warmer (as the manifold is heated) and keeps it lower & more tucked away

Ahh I understand, thanks for the explanation guys. What freezes exactly the float?

The fuel air mix, it gets cold and condensed on the cold part stopping your engine getting the vapor mix, its quite common with the adaptor, although some people weld water jackets to the adaptor or wrap copper pipe around it these are connected to the engine cooling system which heats the adaptor & stops it freezing

So circulating the cooling system via the adapter with welding on piece of pipe heating the adapter would do the trick. Sounds like a plan. Need to get the truck first.. Will talk more to him tomorrow, may even get it in work and on the ramp just to look at how bad it is. Glad the Chassis don't rust on these, forever welding up LR chassis! lol
