Oh also forgot to mention I fabricated the bumper aswell and also I have machined a rocklobster 4.16:1 transfer box which is currently fitted. Also I fitted add-a-leafs to cope with the extra weight of the diesel engine which I will be removing soon

Thanks gaz

Just found the pics of my anti-tramp bar I made for the rear axle as when it was turbo diesel the torque was massive resulting in bad spring wrap. I wanted it bolt on with a crossmember welded to the chassis heres some pics.

Now I want to make a hi-steer kit for my sj to get rid of the small amount of bump steer I have. I looked at the kits available to buy and decided to make one based on the kit sold by sky manufacturing in the US . I first had to source some joints for the tie rods with both left and right threads for tracking adjustments . After some time searching I found the track rods off a 1987-1992 ford transit van to be ideal and extremely cheap from ebay. They measure as follows:
Taper size 1:20 from 18mm dia to 20mm dia over 20 mm length or 2.86 degrees machining angle
Threads size m20x1.5 left and right threads
Nut size m16x1.5

So I measured up my spare hubs and compared my measurements with a pic of the Sky kit and was pretty close so started to machine the arms to suit my drawing

Milling out 2 blocks to 78mm x 30mm x 275mm long

Then I marked out the hole positions and worked out the radius size of the caliper clearance (220mm). With no access to tooling for the boring head we have to do this size I opted to jig the blocks and bore them on the big lathe in the 4 jaw chuck. This is quite a big lathe with a 900mm dia 4 jaw chuck but manage things like this with ease.

To get an idea of the size of this lathe look at the brick size behind the lathe in comparison to the chuck

Then I bored the tapers for the transit track rod ends. Firstly to set up the small lathe I offset the compound slide to 2.86 degrees by measuring with a dti to get 5mm deflection over 100mm distance. Then I bored the holes untill the top of the hole was 20mm. I then did this for all 3 holes.

I then milled the rest of the block out to suit my profile measured and then test fitted them to my spare hubs which fit well.

Now I just have to fit them to my sj and measure up for the tie rods and make those which hopefully should be soon

Gaz.
