I've done it by just wedging a flathead screwdriver of the correct size down between the collar and adjuster before.

Well I managed to turn it with a small flathead bit in a 1/4" spanner jammed in the gap. I right pain to do though !!
I turned it in and it only got worse, so undid it some and it didn't get any better than I started with.
Then dropped the bit, never to be seen again
So thought, stuff it then
Still ticks over rough but checking the CO2 it's 1.3 according to my tester so that's all it's getting..
Bloody rust bucket............

Mine passes the emissions test every year but just occasionally I get the petrol smell. It won't idle at 800 rpm (very choppy) seems to settle at 1000. I'm loath to start messing with botched tools that might make things worse. Maybe a new set of plugs?

Making this tool may help: Alan Millyard made a bent screwdriver for adjusting carburettor screws on his motorbike - detailed video here:

In this video I show how I made a simple flexible screwdriver to adjust the mixture screws on my Honda ST1100 pan European. The mixture screws can not be accessed with a conventional straight screwdriver."
