That's a 3 door vitara caliper. Fairly sure I have a set sitting around somewhere waiting to be overhauled, but which will never go into my vehicle now.
So what angle did you fit them at?

That sounds like the correct setup, although I had the same setup (Sammy front, Vit rear) before re-engineering the whole thing to use Rover 25 rear calipers on the back to get the proper brake balance.
Before switching, I had the same spongy brakes problem that you're having, and I suspected that the Vit calipers were somehow not bleeding right.
The Rover ones in, problems went away. Although the whole system was bled dry, re-primed and re-bled so it may have been nothing to do with the Vit calipers at all!

When I did my rear disc conversion earlier this year, I had to bleed the brakes though at least 4 times before I got a decent pedal. Now they work great. I think it just takes a while to get all the air out.

Ferris - perhaps it's a case of needing to let everything settle, letting the air bubbles collect, and then purging them?
I have a feeling that because I started fresh, with a completely empty system and brand new dot4, air pockets couldn't form - I also massively "over bled" mine (used 2 full cans of dot4) when the Rover calipers went on.
I may get more dot4 and re-bleed, just for safetys sake - you never can be too sure of your brakes, eh?
