Before I'd even begin putting time into it, I'd find out it's history first. Find out if you can obtain a new V5 or all of this work will be worth nothing to be honest.

Enthusiasm is good though, you're more than welcome to come and sort mine out while you wait for your V5 lol.

Haha ok. I'm going to ring dvla tomorow, I think I've found a vin number down by the drivers footwell, but would I be better to try and find one on the chassis incase it's had a new body??

Yeah i'd try looking, the chassis number is behind the drivers side wheel stamped on the chassis next to the brake pipe retaining bracket.

Yeah I have found that one but someone said there will be another one on the chassis somewhere?? What one would be better to use if they do differ and would it be worth finding both to see if they match??

if the one in the footwell doesn't match the one stamped on the chassis like I mentioned, then you've two different cars and probably won't be worth continuing until you get word from DVLA.

Its not really so much of a problem with SJs (and many other 4x4s) as you can freely take the body off one and put in on a different chassis...
If the numbers are different though make sure you use the chassis one and not the body one ;)

If you have a VIC and the body vin plate does not match the chassis number then Vosa will not be very happy, they need to match so if the body is swapped the vin plate needs to be as well.

The VIN is stamped on the driver side of the chassis here

Shouldn't be a problem for the MOT though... only if you happen to get pulled over by VOSA

My shell's VIN plate has been missing for a couple of years now lol
