If you notice in that picture the rear tyre has already lifted even though the rear shackles have not fully opened, I was using it to highlight that they CAN unload in certain situations.
Like I said in my original post, a well designed set up
can work however when we are talking about a leaf spring set up with no links to control axle wrap and position (like a coil set up) drop links can cause more harm than good and they will reduce the life of your leaf springs.
IMO if you are ever going to use drop shackles then it should be a 'missing link' style set up as they work better than the 'D-flex' style ones. I wouldn't think twice about installing a set of trail tough missing links with YJs as they have been proven to work well and not unload or have slop like some others do.
At the end of the day you can set up your vehicle however you want it but I personally would not use drop shackles because in my opinion the negatives outweigh the positives.

So if I dont go with the flex shackles (slowly being turned off them, not 100% yet though
) where/how am I best to get the 2" lift i want?

I thought you only wanted an extra 1"
if so why not a 1" body lift or some slightly longer shackles. slightly longer shackles don't really hurt, it's when you go for really long shackles the problems start
or you could get another set of 3" lift rear springs, run those in the front and just run some longer shackles in the rear?

Interesting with the rear springs, im assuming they are bigger than the front ones then?
I want 2" more lift
What is involved with a body lift? The 2" body lift kits are pretty cheap but im guessing its a lot of work?
Its my only transport so would have to be something i could do over a weekend.

Ok, if i where to move the rear springs to the front, wouldnt I need a new shackle for it to fit without welding?
If I where to do that, could I get rascal springs for the back? (some like this:

Will they fit on as they are?
Im assuming they will then need a 2inch lift shackle to match the height of the front?

Yes
You've already got 3" lift springs, so putting rascal springs would be the wrong direction to go in really...

So that wouldnt work with scotts idea of putting the rear springs on the front and getting new rear springs? (I would need new 3" lift ones?)
Also, as asked, can that be done without too much hasstle i.e. no welding etc?

shouldn't be too hard to knock up some adapters for the rears up front, you can prob do it with just an angle grinder and drill, it would also improve the stock front shackle angle that is crap
I think it's one of the reasons SJs ride so rough.
Then yes you want 3" lift springs + some lift shackles to level the truck out at the rear.
